Carbon is the design equivalent of showing up in a black t-shirt and letting your work speak for itself. No accent color. No gradient. No opinion about whether you should feel warm or cool or playful. Just black, white, and every gray in between. The content does the talking.
There's a suspicion a lot of builders have. That all those trendy color palettes and bouncy animations are just hiding mediocre products underneath.
Carbon confirms that suspicion. When you strip away every decoration, what's left has to be good. The typography has to carry weight. The spacing has to be perfect. The hierarchy has to be obvious without a single color cue.

Inter for everything. Headings and body. One font doing all the work. In a monochrome system, the typography IS the design. Size, weight, and spacing create every bit of hierarchy. There's no accent color to fall back on. No bold gradient to bail you out.
